Family Literacy Programs
Our family programs are for parents and their pre-school aged children and they are always FREE! We offer programs to support parents in their role as their child's first and most important teacher. Studies show that if a child knows eight nursery rhymes by heart by the time they are four years old, they are usually among the best readers by the time they are eight years old! Isn't that amazing?
Books for Babies
Books for Babies is offered in cooperation with the Mountain View County's Public Health Nurses.
Parents with a new baby are provided with a book bag that contains a board book, a picture book, a free library card for your new baby and information on introducing your child to literacy.
If you have recently had a baby and have not received your book bag, please contact your local Public Health Nurse.
Rhyme Time
Rhyme Time is a fun, interactive program for parents and their children aged newborn to four years old. Participants learn a variety of songs, rhymes, and finger plays to do with their children, as well as participate in story telling. This oral literacy program helps children enjoy and have fun with language, and supports language development, sound discrimination, and rhyming skills. Parents also share ideas on how to use the songs and rhymes as positive effective parenting tools. Check our calendar for Rhyme Time sessions in your community.
Building Babies Brains
This program is currently under review. We are developing new program content and hope to have the completed program available in the new year.
